Set the metronome at tempo that is much slower than the 120 beats per minute that this piece of music would originally be played at. Then you need practice this solo this using the slower tempo and as you gain more confidence in playing it so you can then speed up the tempo on your metronome.
If you find that even when playing this solo at a much slower speed than the 120 beats per minute you are still having problems then you should slow it down further. You may feel that you should be able to play it at the correct speed straight away but this will not happen. If you are having problems playing it at a much slower tempo in the beginning then trying to play it at the correct speed becomes even more difficult. You need to remember that each note you play in this solo is an eighth note so each note you play only gets half a beat on the metronome.

Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana - This is has become one of the most influential songs of all time and even though the guitar solo within it is brief it is perfect for those who are only just learning to play the guitar. The great thing about this easy guitar solo is that it mimics the actual verse in the song and so fits in well with the flow of the music.
You may want to attempt playing this particular easy guitar solo without using your little finger. However, if you are a complete beginner at playing the guitar then using your little finger is crucial as it makes it much easier to play the eighth fret note when moving between the G and D and the D and A Strings. Also you should insure you use your index finger as well when playing this easy guitar solo as it makes bending the eighth fret note much easier.
